Easy delicious homemade bread

Oh wow! I just have to share this. We make our bread in the bread machine every other day since our 12 year old daughter was 2! Yup, for 10 years.. and TODAY I made a delicious and fluffy egg bread from scratch…! It is so divine and fluffy and just plain perfect… So when I arrived home today, after my son’s drum lesson and haircut, the house smelled amazing of freshly baked bread. And I am telling you… warm homemade bread.. is the.best.bread you will ever have, minus all the stabilizers and other mysterious ingredients found in store bought breads.

Since I only use a bread machine, my recipe has no detailed kneading and baking instructions. I don’t really enjoy kneading much and all that kind of stuff, unless absolutely necessary… so my bread machine has been my BFF sitting on my kitchen counter for a decade now.. (I use it for any kind of kneading required for other recipes too, ha! My extra pair of hands). Plus it takes me 4 minutes to throw all the ingredients in and call it a day… I would otherwise spend more time looking for the right bread if I were to buy it. My kids (and the parents) devour our breads, and did I say how much less expensive and frugal it is to make it yourself?! Okay, so less talk and more baking – hands-free though 😁

I am sure you can find a good homemade bread recipe someplace else… but here it’s how I made it today, in 4 minutes 🙂

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons butter (room temperature)
  • 1 egg (lightly beaten)
  • Approx 1.5 cups milk (see recipe)

  1. Put first 6 ingredients in the bread machine.
  2. Put the egg in a 1-cup measuring cup. Top it all the way up with whole milk. Add this to the bread machine. (Use whatever milk you usually buy; we drink whole milk here).
  3. Add another 1/2 cup milk to the bread machine.
  4. Turn on the bread maker to the regular bread setting.
  5. Remove when done. Let cool 15-30 minutes before slicing.

Enjoy with cold butter, strawberry jam and a tall glass of cold milk! I am going to have another slice now 🙂

Or with hot chilli, or the list can keep going on and on and on…. YUM!

If you want to look up the Panasonic bread maker that I personally use, you can find it on Amazon where I bought mine a decade ago. Happy baking 😊
